WWTP Decontamination and Decommissioning

Location: Princeton Junction, New Jersey
Value: $ 70,000.00
Panther was contracted to decommission an abandoned 1.0 MGD waste water treatment plant consisting of five (5) underground process vessels, various pipes, and treatment buildings located in Princeton Junction, NJ. The work included waste sampling and characterization, waste removal and disposal, access road construction, tank cleaning and removal, building demolition and restoration of the area. Panther pre-characterized waste liquids and sludge prior to mobilization and once the testing was completed, Panther obtained the appropriate approvals and began the decommissioning operation. Panther conducted a public utility mark out and coordinated a private utility mark out with the owner's maintenance personnel. Orange safety fencing was setup to create a work perimeter and prevent unauthorized personnel from entering the work zone. Clean stone was utilized to rehabilitate an abandoned access road and to construct a waste staging area. Panther removed and disposed of 25,000 gallons of wastewater and 20 tons of sludge. In addition, we recovered and recycled 50 tons of clean concrete and 50 tons of scrap steel. Panther succeeded in surgically removing the WWTP, which minimized disruption to the surrounding natural habitats. Identification and use of the former service road minimized clearing activities and eliminated the need for wetlands and stream encroachment permits.
