Panther completed implementation of soil and sediment corrective measures at four (4) solid waste management units (SWMUs) located at an active manufacturing facility, which included remediation within a GP-4 permitted areas. Work involved clearing, excavation, removal and disposal of approximately 800 tons of metal and PAH contaminated sediments and soils, storm-water management as well as a variety of restoration activities. Three (3) of the SWMUs were active storm water outfalls and required full-time storm water bypass pumping during excavation and restoration activities. Also included was the disruption and restoration of delineated wetlands areas that was performed by Panther under permits obtained by ERM.
Following excavation activities, each of the storm-water outfalls were re-constructed utilizing filter fabric and several different gradations of filter stone and rip-rap material. A fourth SWMU involved removal of existing asphalt pavement, excavation and disposal of contaminated soil, backfill and compaction with engineered fill materials, re-grading and repaving with a new asphalt paving system. A total of nine (9) different fill materials were sourced for this project including all necessary geotechnical analysis and clean fill certifications.
During the coarse of the project, when the engineer identified additional contaminated soils (of unknown source) adjacent to an existing storm-water sewer line, Panther sampled, analyzed and obtained an expedited disposal facility approval for this material and removal and disposal was accomplished with minimal impact to the overall project schedule. |
