Panther was contracted to implement a NJDEP approved work plan for the identification, segregation and packaging the contents of 60 trailers of discarded hazardous and non-hazardous vaccine and consumer products (over 15,000 containers) deemed as waste from a project located in Buena, New Jersey. While characterization of each waste stream was still being determined, stabilization of the site commenced followed by the processing and the disposition of all waste materials encountered all under the daily inspection and direction of the Owner, a consultant and the NJDEP. Historical information regarding the contributing facilities processes, raw material purchases, and returned products were categorized and used to carefully and efficiently manage the inventory process, while implementing the emergency cleanup action. As the contents and condition of the products, vaccines, and chemicals were not defined, Panther made entry into each trailer in Level B personnel protection. Breathing air, PVC gloves, suits, and booties were utilized until all chemical and biological hazards were identified, handling procedures resolved and disposition defined.
Panther complemented the reconnaissance crew by providing personnel, materials and equipment including laboratory chemists to identify segregate, record, pack and obtain approvals for the transportation and disposal of the waste materials. Our crews managed the unknowns, the identification procedures to segregate waste and the proper packaging techniques for the ultimate disposal facilities. Based on our extensive knowledge of the by-products disposal outlets, Panther was able to save the client thirty thousand ($30,000.00) in disposal costs through negotiations, packaging modifications and the use of innovative disposal outlets.
