MGP Soil Pile Remediation and LNAPL Recovery and Water Treatment

Location: Manchester, New Jersey
Value: $ 1,500,000.00
Panther successfully completed remedial activities at a former MGP Stockpile facility in Manchester, New Jersey. The work comprised logistically challenging activities that included the excavation and disposal of 9,300 tons of MGP impacted soils along with dewatering and on-site treatment of approximately 1-million gallons of impacted groundwater. Excavations were within the sandy soils and with elevated ground water levels. Panther was awarded the project based on our innovative approach of leap-frogging trench boxes to maintain excavation integrity without the use of sheeting. Upon installation of the trench box systems and further excavation, LNAPL was encountered and removed by slurping with air operated vacuum equipment. Additional services included the construction of an access road, installation and operation of a 200-gpm well-point dewatering system with onsite groundwater treatment and subsurface recharge gallery, the installation of geotextile barrier to minimize recontamination, load-out and transportation to an approved thermal treatment vendor, and restoration of the site with clean fill and topsoil. (The Panther designed groundwater treatment system included three Frac-tanks, with oil-water separator, carbon and bag filtration prior discharging into a shallow aquifer.) In addition to trench box systems, Panther utilized a 100,000-pound excavator, a mini-excavator, loader, dozer and compaction equipment to remove impacted soils and place clean certified fills. Site restoration included using geotextile, 1.5 clean stone and topsoil. A vegetative cap was placed over the entire disturbed area.
