Panther assisted the client’s consultant with a constructability review and fast track installation of an innovative storm-water pilot treatment system. The 100-gpm treatment system, installed at the Middlesex, New Jersey facility, consisted of a gravity flow iron filing reactor bed to precipitate and remove dissolved arsenic from storm-water. The system reactor was encased below grade in cement/bentonite grout and featured sophisticated multi-level/multi-point sampling points for monitoring system performance. The system included a flow monitoring station and a down stream limestone neutralization bed. Work included excavation and installation of 400 feet of subgrade gravity piping within wetlands sediments contaminated with up to 20,000 ppm Arsenic, bypass pumping of base storm-water/stream flow during construction and installation of pre-cast concrete reactor and meter vaults. Panther also fabricated and installed the reactor’s internal distribution laterals and monitoring probes, placed the reactor bedding, encased the reactor within cement/bentonite grout and constructed a final effluent lime neutralization bed beneath the invert of an existing stream. A full perimeter dust monitoring program was also developed and implemented by Panther. Several constructability design changes proposed by Panther allowed for the successful installation of the complex treatment system while maintaining the intended system function. Panther successfully sourced and procured equipment for the California based consultant and completed system installation in 1 week as required to meet an aggressive site capping schedule, which was slated to begin the following week.
