In-Situ Bioremediation – Wurtsmith Air Force Base

Location: Oscoda, Michigan
Value: $ 146,000
Panther provided personnel and equipment for the procurement, mixing and injection of 2,940 gallons of emulsified vegetable oil product EOS B42 at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, Michigan. Mixing and injection of the EOS as a 5% solution was completed into the fifteen (15) existing wells onsite. The injections were designed by the client to remediate chlorinated compounds in groundwater and specifically to prevent offsite migration of the contaminants. A total of approximately 59,000 gallons of dilute EOS B42 injections were followed by the injection of 62,000 gallons of anaerobic chase water to ensure adequate distribution of the amendments in the aquifer. Online split stream mixing of the various amendments with potable water into five (5) wells simultaneously at 7 gallons per minute (gpm) per well was used to complete injections extremely efficiently compared to a batch mixing scenario. Makeup water was generated through an extraction well pumping system installed by Panther to supply consistent groundwater to the mixing and injection system. To accomplish these rates, one of Panther’s high flow injection trailers, various pumps, compressors, manifold systems and customized well heads were mobilized to the site. In each day of operations, Panther prepared and inline mixed approximately 14,000 – 18,000 gallons of EAB substrate (emulsified vegetable oil or sodium lactate) and chase water, over a period of 8 hours with a combined injection rate of 35-gpm. Prior to deployment, Panther developed a site-specific health and safety plan (HASP) to execute the project, and provided a two (2) man OSHA trained crew. The project was completed on-time, on-budget, accident free and one day ahead of schedule.
